Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
French steel company LME (Laminés Marchands Européens) is to create some 90 new jobs at its site in Trith-Saint-Léger bringing the workforce up to 520 staff (including temporary agency workers). According to press reports, forty jobs have already been created. The company intends to increase its production by 30%.
LME has already made large investments to modernize the production equipment - this move has allowed the company to cut costs and cope with a fall in sales due to the financial crisis, according to media reports.
