Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Slovenske železnice (Slovenian Railways), the Slovenian state railway company, has announced of up to 900 in 2012. The company has been generating losses for years and the economic crisis has further deteriorated the situation.
UPDATE, 20/04/2012 - According to latest media reports, a new management has been appointed in Slovenske želežnice. The new management changed the previous restructuring programme, including the plans for employment reduction. Now, the company has increased the number of redundancies to 1052 by 2013. Trade unions agree with the new plan.
UPDATE, 24/10/2012 - According to the lates media reports, the number of employees will be reduced to 8200 by the end of 2012. This means that of the total number of 1052 redundancies, 697 employees will be laid off by the end of 2012, and the remaining 355 by the end of 2013.
