Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Finnish steel producer Outokumpu is set to lay off around 600 people at its Långshyttan and Torshälla plants in Sweden as it merges its stainless steel operation with German-based Thyssen Krupp. Swedish trade unions had not yet been informed about planned redundancies when it was announced, but Thyssen Krupp has promised its German unions to save as many jobs as possible which would result in the closure of the Swedish plants.
In october Outokumpu initiated its reduction of the workforce in Sweden (see factsheets 18966 and 18916). In total Outokumpu will cut 1300 jobs globally until the end of 2012, see factsheet 19079
