Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Swedish supermarket chain Ica will reduce their workforce by 113 employees at its storage unit in Kungälv. It had been announced in January that 75 jobs will be cut, but this number was upped to 38 in February. The redundancies announced in February will proceed in two steps: Some of the workers will leave the storage unit in May and some in October.
The company gives as reasons for the cutbacks that the storage will handle smaller volumes in the future and for that the Kungälv storage's workforce is too large. Four new positions are said to be created in Helsingborg and the workforce in Kungälv will be prioritized for these positions.
Ica employs 565 people at its storage in Kungälv.
