Description

South Wales Police has announced plans to create 200 new jobs in an attempt to serve the needs of the public more efficiently. At the same time, front desk staff will be cut. The new posts will be filled by police community support officers and will be funded by the Welsh government. The officers will provide face-to-face contact with the public, and will also be organised into mobile policing units. 

UPDATE, 17/03/2012 - South Wales Police has announced that it is to cut some 200 jobs as the force centralises its non-emergency call system. The job cuts are part of budget cuts that were announced in the government's spending review. The police will soon start consultations with Unison and GMB unions over the cuts.
