Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
After the merger of two farmer-owned dairy companies in Sweden, Arla and Milko, it is now clear that the jobs of 200 former Milko employees will be cut. The 200 redundancies are expected to be implemented as soon as the integration process is complete.
In Grådö 155 employees will get dismissed since Arla has to sell the dairy in Grådö due to a decision from the Swedish Competition Authority (Konkurrensverket). In Milko's old headquarters in Östersund 45 white collar employees will be given redundancy notices since many positions already exist at Arla's main office in Stockholm.
All made redundant will get support to find new jobs according to official sources. Trade Union negotiations have been ongoing since November and are now fully completed.
