Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Siemens Turbomachinery Equipment in Helsingør is to discontinue the production of wastewater treatment plants whereby 120 employees will be made redundant. The employees received a prior notice on the 24 January 2012 that their contracts will be terminated. 70 employees in development and research departments will continue at the plant in Helsingør.
Siemens has decided to move the entire production apparatus to an existing plant in Frankenthal, Germany. The relocation of production is expected, according to the Siemens management, to be completed by the end of 2012.
Siemens directors and employees' representatives and their unions negotiate in the next 21 days with the aim to mitigate the effects of the relocation.
