The Zonnehuizen group, a provider of care and education services for adults and young people with special needs, was declared bankrupt with the subsequent loss of 700 jobs. The job cuts affect one third of the group's employees.
On 10 January 2012, it was announced that two organizations were to take over Zonnehuizen's activities: one is the non-profit group LSG-Rentray and the other the for-profit Loek Winter.
It is reported that clients, client's parents, trade unions and the Health Care Inspectorate are concerned about the future quality of care services. The bankruptcy is attributed to financial mismanagement and a number of take-overs in the last couple of years.
A timeline for the job cuts is not yet known.
