Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
As announced on 19 January 2012, German manufacturer of printing presses Manroland will cut about 2,200 of 4,700 jobs in Germany. In Augsburg, where currently 2,200 people are employed, 700 jobs will be cut. Additionally, 1,000 out of 1,750 employees in Offenbach and 527 out of 823 employees in Plauen will lose their jobs.
Manroland, which filed for insolvency in November, reported that the Augsburg site will be taken over by German Possehl-Group. Manroland named the internet boom and price pressure as reasons for the insolvency. Former negotiations with a potential investor have not been successful.
Manroland has around 6,500 employees.
As reported, Germany has applied for assistance from the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF).
