Description
In November 2011 PostNL announced 100 redundancies due to the decision to end the delivery of adressed mail for business customers. The decision will result in the loss of 100 full-time jobs and in the termination of freelance contracts with 5000 couriers. The redundancies will be implemented by December 2011.
A spokesperson of the group named the fierce competition, especially by new Sandd - Selekt Mail, and high losses as reasons for the cuts. PostNL stated that they do expect the 5000 freelance couriers to find other jobs due to the large demand for their services. They might partly be redeployed in other parts of the group.
It is speculated that the timing of the decision is related to a new collective agreement for the postal sector being implemented, which would affect the couriers.
