Description
As announced on December 16, 2011, German Energy Provider RWE Power will cut about 1,000 jobs until the end of 2016 in Germany. This is due to denuclearization and the resulting closure of Biblis nuclear power station as well as the opening of new coal-fired power stations, which are less personnel-intensive than the replaced ones.
The company is reported to be willing to avoid forced redundancies. The restructuring is said to be implemented in close consultation with the trade unions. Worldwide, up to 8,000 jobs are affected by the restructuring.
RWE employs around 17,000 people in Germany.
