As announced on December 15, 2011, plant constructor Hitachi Power Europe will cut 200 out of 1,100 jobs in its Duisburg headquarter.
This is due to a changed energy mix in Germany and, resulting from this, a lower demand. Hitachi justified the decision by poor order situations concerning coal-fired power stations - the last plant was ordered in 2008. Furthermore, Hitachi plans engagements in renewable energy technologies.
