Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The enterprise Comansa, specialized in the manufacture of flat-top cranes, has applied for the Redundancy Procedure affecting 55 employees (14% of its total workforce). Furthermore, the enterprise has applied for a working time reduction of 30% for the rest of the staff.
The employee's representatives reject the measure, and have asked the labour authority to achieve an agreement with the enterprise aiming to avoid the measures. It is reported that even greater cuts could be faced, reducing the workforce from now 388 to 99 within the next three years.
A timeline for the redundancies is not known yet.
