Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On the 7th of November, 2011 Finish manufacturer of power sources and equipment for the marine industry Wärtsilä created 140 new jobs in the Netherlands. That day, the company opened a new warehouse in Kampen (NL). The new central warehouse bundles the activities of eight centres that were previously located all over the world. The centre will contain 250,000 spare parts for the distribution to one of the 160 service centres worldwide.
It is reported that the location in Kampen was chosen due to its central geographical location in the Netherlands and not to given the impression to compensate for recent job losses of Wärtsilä's Dutch production facilities.
