Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Paper manufacturer Zanders will cut 350 out of 700 jobs in Bergisch Gladbach, as reported on November 8th, 2011 in Handelsblatt. This is due to overcapacity in the European paper market and former huge losses.
In a former press release (October 18, 2011) Finnish mother company M-real announced plans to discontinue specialty paper and uncoated paper businesses in Gohrsmühle, while profitable Chromolux paper remains in production. Furthermore, there are negotiations to launch a customer service center in Gohrsmühle.
The restructuring of Zanders is part of M-Real group's European restructuring and divestment plan. In October and November 2011 the Finish paper and pulp manufacturer M-Real announced the closure of its plant in Alizay (330 employees) France and redundancies of up to 180 workers at its paper mill in Äänekoski, Finnland.
