On 16 August 2011, the Polish electricity producer and distributor PGE Obrót finished the first stage of a voluntary redundancy programme cutting 180 jobs. The programme was introduced in July 2011.
About 180 workers applied to voluntary redundancy. The affected workers will receive a severance pay equal to 30 months' wages (it may amount to more than 100,000 PLN/ 25,000 EUR per person). The company is currently terminating the contracts with the workers.
The programme is a part of a large restructuring within the whole PGE group. PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna is one of the largest electricity producer and supplier in Poland. It employs 45,000 people across the country.
