Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 13 October 2011, the Commercial court of Bernay announced the liquidation of the cosmetic products manufacturer Beauté Recherche & Production. 158 jobs will be affected by the closure.
The owner, the group Cervin, failed to find a company able to buy its site, which had previously produced cosmetics for the brand Yves-Saint-Laurent. Cervin bought the plant in 2006 and received a 12.5 million Euros contract to finance 150,000 working hours in order to maintain the workforce (back then 213 employees).
The union has protested against the closure and is raising the question on how the received money was used.
