Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 19 October 2011, the management of US automotive supplier Honeywell's plant of Condé-sur-Noireau has announced to its works council its intention to close the site until June 2013. This implies that 323 employees will be dismissed.
Since October, management and unions have been trying to negotiate a social plan and the reindustrialization of the site. The French central and local authorities participated in these negotiations. The Industrial Relation manager explained that a new production plant will open in Rumania with the same production, but that there are no links with the closure.
Honeywell employs 120,000 employees worldwide including 3650 at its 30 French sites.
