Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 7 July 2011, DB Schenker Rail announced to cut 410 jobs in Saxony. The job cuts are related to the closure of a railway station (Dresden-Friedrichshafen). The company stated to restructure its rail cargo business. Employees affected are offered different perspectives. Some of them will go into retirement or leave the company within the next two years. Around 230 engine drivers were offered to transfer to other stations, i.e. Mannheim or the commuter railway in Berlin. DB Schenker Rail is an affiliate of the German railway operator Deutsche Bahn.
