Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On July 6th, the management of the warehouse trolley manufacturer Still-Saxby announced the closure of its plant in Montalaire (Oise) until mid-2012 and its plant in Bari (Italy). The plant in Montataire employs 185 permanent and 70 temporary workers.
Due to large losses of the German group Kion, owner of Still-Saxby and other brands such as Fenwick and Linde, the decision was taken to concentrate the European production on their sites in Châtellerault (Vienne) and Luzzara (Italy). Some employees will be relocated from Montalaire to others sites in France or Italy.
The social partners are currently negotiating the social plan under tense conditions.
