Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
IT services company Wipro is in negotiations to terminate the employment contract with 200 workers at the Portuguese shared services centre. As of July 2011 there is no information on the precise location where the jobs will be cut.
The job losses are blamed on the decision to discontinue the activity of Business Process Outsourcing in Portugal. The services will now be transferred to other centres of the group. The core activity of the group which employs 300 people in Portugal and dedicated to consultancy services in the IT sector, will not be affected.
