Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
In February 2011, stainless steel manufacturer Aperam announced the loss of 223 positions at its plant of Isbergues (North of France).
Due to a decrease of demand, the company decided the temporary closure of the cold rolling mill at Isbergues. Aperam will improve the conditions for the voluntary departures and intends to encourage internal and external mobility.
Some 77 employees have agreed a solution with the management (voluntary departure, internal mobility, etc) and another 122 have applied for similar measures.
