Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 29 August 2011, Lactalis group announced the closure of its cheese production plant in Xertigny (Vosges) and the dismissal of 128 workers from a total workforce of 162. Only the milk collection operations will be maintained on the site, named the "Société fromagère de Xertigny".
Half of the workforce may be offered alternative employment elsewhere within the group, which would be at a location 60 kilometres away from the Xertigny's plant.
In December 2010, the management had cut 42 jobs after the transfer of its "oval cheese" production from Xertigny to Retiers (Ille-et-Vilaine).
