The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
MTVA, the holding group for public media, has announced the dismissal of up to 600 employees in public television and radio stations, as well as state news service MTI. The negotiation with the Works Council has led to an agreement on the dismissal procedure.
Employees being dismissed include award-winning journalists, producers and, in some cases, the entire staff of programs.
The opposition Socialist Party and pro-environment LMP said in separate statements that the jobs cuts were a cover for "politically cleansing" public media. On the other hand, MTVA denied any political motivation in selecting employees for dismissal, saying they were part of a "renewal" of public media.
