Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Textile manufacturer Manhentex closed its site in Barcelos and 100 workers will lose their jobs. According to the textile trade union of Minho and Trás-os-Montes, the liability of the company amounts to 6 million euro, of which 3.5 are debts to Social Security.
The Manhentex has been operating in Manhente (Barcelos) since 1973. The workers are 50 to 61 years old, with limited prospect of finding a new job. Most of them worked over 25 years in the company.
