Description

EOMMEX, a Greek non-profit public organization for the promotion and development of SMEs, will cease to exist and cut its workforce. However, there is no precise information about the number employed. According to the draft Law for the elimination of several public bodies, EOMMEX employs 229 people whereas the  recent resolution of the general assembly of EOMMEX's employees mentions a total workforce of 120 employees.

According to the media, the Greek government announced in early July the closure, merger and consolidation of about 90 public bodies including the Hellenic Organization of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises and Handicraft (EOMMEX) due to high operational costs (i.e. 20,000,000 euros/per year).

Various key actors opposed to the closure of EOMMEX such as the General Confederation of Greek Labour (GSEE), the Hellenic National Federation of Trade (ESEE) and the Chamber of Small and Medium sized Industries of Athens.

The Hellenic Organization of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises and Handicraft (EOMMEX) is a non-profit public organization operating under the auspices of the Ministry of Regional Development and Competitiveness. It was founded in 1977 and its strategic role includes implementing policies and actions to enable SMEs to meet the requirements of the constantly changing conditions within the EU created by the wave of internationalisation.
