Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
SAPA, the aluminium manufacturer, has announced an internal restructuring plan resulting in the dismissal of 170 out of a total of 200 employees in its site in Ghlin. Management intends to consolidate the capacity in Belgium and the Netherlands. The employees reacted by going on strike.
SAPA develops, manufactures and markets value added profiles, profile-based building systems and heat-exchanger solutions based on strip in the lightweight material aluminium. The SAPA group has been established in 1963 and employs around 14,800 people worldwide.
