Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Bialetti, leading company in manufacturing products for the houseware market, is to close its production of non-stick aluminium and stainless stee cookware located in Coccaglio, in the province of Brescia. The cooking tools production will be moved to the Bialetti plant located in Turkey, while the company will convert the Coccaglio plant for the production of coffee capsules. The reorganisation plan envisages 150 job-losses. The redundant workers could benefit to two-year scheme of extraordinary Wage Guarantee Fund. The new Bialetti plant located at Coccaglio will employ around 50 workers. The trade unions reacted to the company's decision organising some protest actions and requiring the involvement of local authorities in order to find other solutions to avoid the relocation process.
