Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer has announced that it is to close its plant in Sandwich with the loss of 2,400 jobs. No date for the closure has yet been announced. The company employs 900 contract workers and 1500 employees. The citizens advice bureaux has appealed to the company to provide funding to support staff members, and particularly the 900 contract workers who will not be offered the same level of support by the company as their direct employees. The company has said that it has already contracted a specialist agency to provide comprehensive support for its staff.
