Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Scanfil EMS, a Finnish contract manufacturer and system supplier for the telecommunications and electronics industries, has announced plans to cut up to 170 jobs. The company has started negotiations with employee representatives on the proposed job cuts.
Scanfil EMS operates in two locations in Finland, and the proposed cuts may include closing its factory in Vantaa. Scanfil's Finnish units employed approximately 450 persons in 2010. It has otherĀ sites in Estonia, Hungary, and China.
Updated, 9-6-2011: Scanfil EMS has concluded negotiations and decided to lay off 132 workers, 129 from its Vantaa factory and cut anotherĀ 3 administrative jobs in Sievi. Production will be relocated from Vantaa to China.
