Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Carrera Optyl, a manufacturer of spectacle frames, sun glasses and ski goggles which is partly owned by the Italian Safilo group, is to lay off 150 workers. The company is located in Ormož in the Podravska region and currently employs 1,060 workers.
The job losses are blamed on reduced demand, but the management also mentions the "uncompetitive environment" in Slovenia. Information about previous instances of restructuring announced by the company is available in factsheets ID 17632 (2009) and ID 14418 (2008)
