Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Only recently Slovenske železnice (Slovenian Railways) gave an update of a restructuring programme implemented in 2010. On the whole, the company cut 990 jobs through 2010, that is, 236 job cuts in addition to the 754 announced in 2010 (see related factsheet ID 16178). Last year, the total workforce was reduced from 7,728 to 6,738 employees. The job cuts were blamed on the losses that the company has been making for years and the further deterioration of its financial situation due to the crisis.
