Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Spaniar has filed a redundancy plan (expediente de regulación de empleo or ERE) to reduce its ground staff of 50 people at the Madrid Barajas airport. The affected staff are those dealing with the luggage, administrative workers of shops and other ground staff. The redundancies are blamed on the reduction of flights in some bases where Spanair operates, such as Madrid.
The redundancy plan has been agreed with two of the three unions in the council. The ERE presented in Madrid at the end of last February involved 65 redundancies but after negotiations with the unions, 50 people will be affected. The job cuts will mostly take the form of voluntary redundancies.
