Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
French railway locomotive manufacturer Alstom has announced its intention to cut 1,380 jobs in Germany, Spain and Italy. 400 jobs will be lost at the Spanish plant located in Santa Perpètua (Barcelona). This announcement was made at the European Working Committee. The job losses are blamed on the decline in orders (especially from the public sector) in the three countries affected by the restructuring.
Update 24-06-2011
Alstom, the transport company, has dismissed 390 employees at its plant in Santa Perpétua (Barcelona), corresponding to 43% of total staff employed. The French multinational justified the measure by the decrease in demand, while the unions see it unacceptable and have called for a strike. It is the second Redundancy Procedure that the enterprise has announced this year.
