Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 4 March 2011, the Irish pulp and paper group Smurfit Kappa announced the closure of a plant in Nanterre (Haut-de-Seine) and the dismissal of its 106 employees. The announcement was made before the central works council; a follow up meeting will be held in mid-March. The company expect to close the plant in the next 10 months which means that redundancies will begin soon.
