Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Czech porcelain factory Haas & Czjzek terminated its operations and closed the factory in Horn Slovkov on 31 January 2011. All 110 employees were laid off. Last year the company faced a financial loss of CZK 10 million and decline in orders. The Russian owner of the facility was forced to close the plant after the Russian government imposed an increase on customs duty for imports of porcelain product from the EU in February 2010. The region has an unemployment rate of 14%.
