Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The publishing group PRISA, which is composed of newspapers, broadcasting and radio enterprises, has announced an internal restructuring plan which includes 2,000 job losses in Spain and 500 in Portugal and America by the first quarter of 2012. The restructuring plan will include early retirement and outsourcing measures, pending talks with local unions. The group hopes that the plan will increase efficiency and it is worth noting that the group has not ruked out the possibility of a second restructuring phase in Spain, which could further reduce the workforce.
