Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 14 January 2011, the biopharmaceutical company Innogenetics, located in Gent, announced the loss of 80 jobs, one- third of the current workforce. The dismissals procedure has already been launched. The job losses are announced six month after the buyout of the company by the Japanese group Fujirebio. The job reductions are blamed on the need to move away from research and development toward sales and distribution.
