Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Fervet, a company which operates in construction, revamping and restyling of trains, is to close its plant located in Castelfranco Veneto (in the province of Treviso), with the loss of 180 jobs. According to the company, the closure is due to the decline in orders. The company had already obtained the recourse to the Wage Guarantee Fund schemes for the employees. The schemes will finish in March 2011 and consequently the collective dismissal procedures will start in the same period. The trade unions have asked the involvement of national and local authorities in order to find alternative work solutions for the company's employees or entrepreneurs who are interested in investing in the area.
