Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Araksos quarries, in Achaia, is closing down and its 150 workers loose their jobs.
According to the sources, the Greek Council of State decided, at the beginnings of December, 2010, the closing down of Araksos quarries after the appeal of local citizens at the Municality of Larissos, Achaia. As such 150 workers loose their jobs. The local citizens' lawyer said that the residents applications have been, finally, accepted, asking for the cancelation of environmental terms -Araksos quarries are operating inside the National Park of Kotyhi-Strofylia which is protected by the Ramsar Convention- as well as the decisions of re-operating quarry sites at the quarry zone of Araksos. The 150 workers in the quarries issued a statement asking all the competent bodies to undertake responsibility and take all the necessary action in order to safeguard their positions in a period of severe economic crisis.
