Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 7 December 2010, consultancy and engineering firm DHV announced it will cut 300 jobs in 2011, out of a total workforce of 2,300. The company implemented internal restructure due to excess workforce and a disappointing operational result. Some 120 employees will be confronted with forced dismissal. The remaining job losses will be effected through the scrapping of flexible jobs (temp workers and employees with a fixed term contract), retirement and voluntary leave.
