Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 14 December 2010, Siemens IT Solutions and Services announced a plan to cut 650 jobs in Germany. Job cuts are part of the company's restructuring programme. Siemens wants to form a global strategic partnership with Atos Origin. Integrating both businesses and realising synergies will lead to a total loss of 1750 jobs in Europe (see Factsheet 16493). Siemens will contribute up to €250 million to the integration and training costs. However, the deal is to be closed by July 2011. Until then, consultations with the Working Council of Atos Origin are still to be held, the approval of the Antitrust and the Atos Origin Shareholders to be gained.
