Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Finnish provider of automobile inspection services A-katsastus announced up to 200 redundancies in Finland. There is no information on either the precise locations affected by the restructuring. The planned job cuts are blamed on increased competition and decreased market share. The company has initiated negotiations with employee representatives. Labour union Pardia commented that the announced cuts as premature and unnecessary.
Update 15-02-2011: A-Katsastus has concluded negotiations and the job cuts have been revised downwards - 107 employees will lose their job. In future, the company will evaluate its staffing levels regionally and not site-by-site.
