Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Swiss Interspan is to close its particle board manufacturing plant in Vásárosnamény, leading to the loss of 170 jobs. The remaining employees will work only in the trade and logistics units. The company management promised to fulfill the legal requirements associated with dismissals and has even consulted with employee representatives about auxiliary compensation.
The plant has engaged in wood-related manufacturing since the 1960s and in recent years has produced a wide range of wood products including flooring, wall wrappers, and laminated pieces. The company predominately operated in the domestic market and supplied its goods to surrounding countries such as Serbia, Croatia, Ukraine, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Romania.
