Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 10 November 2010, the pharmaceutical company Gruenenthal announced to cut 220 jobs in Germany. This means that every tenth job is affected in Germany. The job cuts are part of a cost saving and restructuring programme. From 2013 onwards, the company seeks to save 57 million euros annually. Gruenenthal intends to invest greater sums into its research and development activities and expand in the Northern and Latin American markets. Gruenenthal currently employs around 5,000 employees worldwide.
