Description
The Cornwall council has announced that it is to cut 2,000 jobs as a result of spending cuts. Unison has argued that workers will struggle to find new employment within the county or in neighbouring Devon. The council has said that a final announcement on further action will happen in November.
Update 6th December 2010
Cornwall Councill's chief executive has announced that around 700 posts would be lost in restructuring rather than the 2000 feared, some through compulsory redundancy. The council was formed in April 2009 from the county council and six district and borough councils. The cuts are aimed at posts where work is being duplicated as a result of rolling together all the distinct former labour forces.
