Description
Amt, the Genoa public transport operator, has announced a reorganisation plan which envisages 400 job-cuts, an increase of urban and extra-urban tariffs and reduction of services.
According to the company, the plan is mainly due to the financial cuts that the Italian central government announced for the local public authorities.
The main partners of Amt are the municipality of Genoa and Transdev, one of the largest private operators of public transport networks in Europe. Amt has around 2,400 employees.
UPDATE JUNE 2011:
After several months of negotiations, at the end of June 2011, Amt and the main sectoral trade unions reached an agreement on the restructuring plan announced by the company. The agreement envisages the recourse to the extraordinary Wage Guarantee Fund for two years. During this period around 230 workers should reach the requisites needed for early-retirement. Moreover the plan provides for the creation of 150 new jobs by the end of 2013.
