Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The management of Sitel Belgium, operating in call centers, already announced in September its intention to close its site based in Geel (Flanders) employing 116 workers. The decision is now confirmed:"In spite of all our efforts, Geel is not profitable", explained the management. An agreement on a restructuring plan has been found with the trade unions on 16 September. The content has not been revealed but the "Renault procedure" in case of collective redundancy has been launched. Workers from the Geel site will have the "opportunity" to integrate in the Diegem or the Eindhoven sites.
