Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On September 3rd 2010, defense company BAE Systems' Swedish branch BAE System Hägglunds gave dismissal notices to 100 white collar and 50 blue collar employees in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden. The reason for the planned reduction in staff is the loss of an important order during the public procurement of the Swedish Ministry of Defence that concerned the production of 100 armoured vehicles. Company management has also decided to stop the production of the new combat vehicle SAP/Alligator. In the past two years 350 employees have already been dismissed from BAE Systems Hägglunds.
