Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
On 27 July, URSSAF-Paris, a member of a network of private organizations which collect social security contributions, announced the elimination of 230 positions. This downsizing is part of the group's new multi-year management contract for 2010-2013. No layoffs will be made, but a portion of positions made open by retirement and other turnover methods will not be refilled. Unions opposed the downsizing and called a strike, but it did not change the outcome of the vote made by the board of directors to go forward with the plan.
